Habitat & Migration

Habitat

Canadian Geese nest on slightly raised areas near water, often nesting in the same spot each year (Sayre).

Their habitats include natural and man-made locations, including rivers, wetlands, ponds, parks, and open lawns (Loudoun).

Migration

Canadian Geese can be found across Canada and the United States, and in northern parts of Mexico during winter. Goose families migrate together (Sayre).

Not all Canadian Geese migrate long distances. Geese that were bred to increase the population in the past century are less likely to migrate and are instead called "resident" geese (Sayre).
